Episode Recap: This episode begins with scenes of Miami night life that turns into morning. Then shows two dead men inside a night club and one more injured man calling 9-11 on his cell phone.
Horatio enters the night club and talks to Yelina. She tells him that the two dead victims are the owners of the night club. They are Justin and Brad and Horatio refers to them as trust fund babies. The team decides that it doesn’t look like a robbery but Ricky Murdoch (the lone survivor) says it was a guy in a ski mask. Before the ambulance takes him away Ricky tells Horatio that he only remembers being shot one time but was shot twice. Horatio replies, “Yeah know what happens sometimes, Trauma can affect our perception of the situation and the bad guys come to count on it.” Calleigh, Eric, and Speed come to process the crime scene. Eric makes a comment to Speed and Speed asks him if he ever thought of being a stand up comic. They find prints and other evidence including finding out that the street sweeper may help them with their time line.
father Kenwall comes to talk to Calleigh and tells her that he has got a new job as county defender. Calleigh seems to be happy but also a little surprised. Kenwall tells her about his new case that he is working on.
Alexx and Horatio look over the two bodies in the morgue. They find cocaine in Justin and also find evidence of a fight.
Yelina and Horatio go to interrogate Ricky Murdoch again but before they can get much out of him, his lawyer enters. He introduces himself as Aaron Schecter.
Eric and Joseph Kayle process the finger print they found at the crime scene and Joseph makes a comment about Eric smelling bad. Eric tells him he had been going through dumpsters trying to find the murder weapon but didn’t have any luck. The fingerprint is matched to Angelo Sedaris. They bring in Angelo for an interview and he admits to being there because Justin and Brad had stolen his cocaine earlier that night. He admits to getting into a fight with them but swears he didn’t kill them.
Calleigh and Speed process Angelo’s car and find a gun hidden there that just happens to be the same type as the murder weapon.
Kenwall comes to talk to Calleigh about his case and Calleigh gives him a little advice while staying neutral.
Calleigh processes Angelo’s gun and finds that it is not the murder weapon. Hagen comes in to ask her what she was doing helping her father mess up Hagen’s case. Calleigh says she didn’t know Hagen was working on it and that it shouldn’t matter anyway cause the evidence doesn’t lie. The discussion is pretty heated and Horatio comes in and interrupts them. When Hagen leaves Horatio asks Calleigh if she is okay and she tells him yes.
Horatio goes back to the morgue to get Alexx’s opinion on the time line of the case. While he is there they see a news cast where Aaron tells the world that he has “found” the murder weapon and is taking it to the Miami police.
Eric and Speed talk to Horatio about Aaron’s little stunt and Horatio admits that he doesn’t believe a word Aaron and Ricky are saying.
Horatio asks Speed to do a reconstruction of the shooting using Ricky’s shirt to see how close the shooter was to him when they fired the gun. Eric works on Kenwall’s case processing the car that the crime took place in. Hagen comes to look over his shoulder and asks him to overlook evidence.
Calleigh goes to speak with Eric. Kenwall comes in and thanks Eric for his good work. Then Kenwall leaves and Eric tells Calleigh about what Hagen asked him to do. He then asks if Kenwall knows about Calleigh and Hagen’s relationship to which Calleigh responds, “I didn’t know you knew.” Speed does the reconstruction and tells Horatio what he found out. Ricky couldn’t have shot himself. Horatio then tells Speed to run a finger print through the Bar Association’s website. Horatio confronts Aaron and he admits to going to the club but denies having anything to do with the crime. Horatio alludes to having ballistic evidence that would prove Aaron did it and tells Aaron, “I’ll see you in court.”
Calleigh thinks about Kenwall’s case and realizes that his client did commit murder and tells him how she came to the conclusion.
Horatio comes again and asks Calleigh if she is okay. They talk about the ballistics evidence and how the gun had a sympathetic discharge which is extremely rare.
Speed takes a sample from the lawyer’s car. Yelina tells Horatio about zoning laws and gives Horatio a detailed motive for Ricky to have wanted Justin and Brad killed.
Calleigh rechecks the murder weapon for evidence and finds a fiber from Aaron’s suit inside it. Horatio and Yelina show Aaron and Ricky all the evidence they have against them and then arrest them.
Calleigh is in the parking garage when Hagen walks up to her and tells her that he found her father drunk at a bar. He helps her get Kenwall into her vehicle.
Yelina walks Ricky out to a police car. Ricky tells Horatio that he will get away with it because his family will get him the best defense money can buy. Horatio responds, “The best defense is an honest life.”
