The Quotable Caine:
Episode Recap: This episode begins at a race track where a race is under way. Pit crew member Chris Petry catches on fire and dies. Yelina and Horatio question people and find that the driver of that team is missing.
Alexx looks over Chris’s body and has a heated conversation with the medic on site.
Horatio finds that the water hose that could have been used to spray the pit crew member with has been tampered with; it has a socket in it. Speed, Eric, Calleigh, and Horatio process the scene.
Horatio talks to Haley Wilson who is the race car team’s owner. She wants the pit cleaned and ready for practice but Horatio informs her that it is now a crime scene.
Calleigh admires a race car while Eric comments on how great a sport racing is. They talk about how a pit stop works and how methanol gas burns clear. Horatio and Haley talk. She tells him that she isn’t sure where Jimmy (the car driver) is. Back at the morgue Alexx and Calleigh are processing the body. They find that there was an accelerant used to help burn through Chris’s fire proof clothing.
Eric finds a socket missing from Chris Petry’s tool box. Speed finds a boot print.
They bring the driver Jimmy in for questioning. Speed teases Alexx because she thinks Jimmy is cute. Horatio takes Jimmy’s boots.
Speed processes the shoes and finds that the print and Jimmy’s boot are not a match.
Eric and Calleigh go back to the race track to look for further evidence. Eric has a hard time getting the other driver’s to cooperate. Calleigh however has no trouble acquiring help from them. A driver named Palo becomes very friendly and helpful to Calleigh. He even offers her a ride in his race car. Another driver named Ernest comes and tells Calleigh that he is better than Palo. Speed finds oil that is specific to team Jeunet. Horatio goes to the party to talk to Team Jeunet. Calleigh and Yelina go with him. Charles Jeunet comes over to where Horatio and Haley are talking and Horatio asks to speak to his driver’s.
Calleigh is out on the patio with Palo getting his shoe size. Meanwhile Yelina is questioning Ernest who is cocky as ever. Finding enough evidence to arrest Ernest they do so and take him in to interrogate him. They accuse him of killing Chris because he knew that Ernest was sabotaging Jimmy’s race car.
The CSI’s stop the truck that has the discarded engine from Jimmy’s car. They then find out that the engine wasn’t sabotaged but was messed with to make it run better during the race.
Horatio talks to Haley and asks if she knows that the team is at war and which side she is on. Haley tells him that she got the team in her divorce settlement. Jimmy comes out and it is learned that Haley and Jimmy are sleeping together.
Eric and Speed go and look at car parts talking about how car parts are done for racing.
Speed processes the engine looking for evidence. Speed tells Eric that there is super glue in a valve which is why the engine blew.
Horatio interrogates Jimmy who admits to fixing the engine himself.
Calleigh and Speed work on gloves and how they ignited and figured out how Chris Petry caught on fire.
Speed checks the Team’s hands and finds burns on Ron’s hand. But there is not enough evidence to arrest Ron for Chris’s murder and none of the other team members will help the investigators. Eric and Speed go over racing tapes. They find something about a wing and go to look for it in the trash. They find the wing and it has Ron’s glove print on it. Chris had caught Ron loosening the wing so he had to get rid of him.
Horatio goes to the party again to talk to Haley. He tells her that her plan worked out. Horatio tells her new sponsor and she loses the deal and her driver Jimmy.
Ron goes to jail for the murder of Chris Petry. Ends with Haley asking Horatio out and he tells her that he has a funeral to go to.
