Eric Delko and Calleigh Duquesne are the oldest members of Horatio's team. An underwater recovery and ballistics expert respectively, Eric and Calleigh share a long, complicated history of friendship and often a bit of ambiguity. We saw Eric sitting back and exhibiting a little jealousy every time Calleigh talked to John Hagen, and as Eric's feelings for Calleigh developed and came to the forefront, his discomfort and perhaps disapproval of Calleigh's current boyfriend, Jake Berkeley, became evident. We saw Calleigh exhibiting a little bit of jealousy as well when she thought Marisol (Eric's sister) was actually his girlfriend, and though Calleigh can be seen as emotionally closed off, she has never hesitated to express that her trust for him runs deep. Mostly, these are the only two characters on the show who have constantly been there for each other, supporting each other through their worst trials.
Important Moments in Eric and Calleigh's History
Episode 1.03 - Wet Foot/Dry Foot. Horatio riles up the Cuban community by interrogating the family of a young refugee that was found dead in a raft in the middle of the ocean. To try and avoid the conflict with his neighbors, Eric asks Calleigh if he can crash at her place. Calleigh avoids the question and Eric nervously explains why he doesn't want to go home. Calleigh is reluctant, but finally agrees, and adds, "No midnight tiptoe, deal?" Eric deals laughingly, knowing exactly what the term means, and he starts to slide up behind Calleigh. She's neither unaware nor opposed to this, and the sexually charged moment ends when she asks him to look at some evidence she's discovered.
Episode 1.13 - Bunk. Eric and Calleigh are investigating the death of an older woman in a retirement community. As they walk to the crime scene, they discuss, and playfully disagree, on what they will do with their grandmothers. Eric playfully refers to Calleigh as "Southern", while she calls him "Cuban".
Episode 1.14 - Forced Entry. The team is working a case where a crematorium worker is found dead and there are quite a few bodies that were supposed to be cremated piled up behind the building. The Eric and Calleigh moment is when they are with Alexx in the morgue and Alexx is about to microwave the dead crematorium worker's hand to find out what he was holding when he died. Calleigh gets a little wigged out when Alexx and Eric act as if microwaving a body part is nothing new- then gets over it when she's the one pushing the buttons. Eric, in the meantime, is getting a great laugh out of the whole deal.
Episode 1.15 - Dead Woman Walking. Eric gets a small dose of radiation while processing contaminated evidence. When he finally gets the all clear (he's told that his level of exposure is the same as what a pilot would get on a flight to Paris), Calleigh tells him to just take the trip to Paris the next time because it would be easier on everyone involved.
Episode 1.17 - Simple Man. A man responsible for killing a woman is about to be found innocent by the county, until a second body is discovered. The team has very little time to prove that the man did it before the case is thrown out. Eric has been diving all night through sewage to find the gun used to kill the victim, while Calleigh has been stressed out tackling two cases at once. They meet in the hallway and Calleigh inquires about the gun. Eric tells her he put it in her lab to process hours before. Calleigh rather snappily admits she's been so busy she must not have seen it, and Eric tells her they've all been working hard. Calleigh stops and apologizes, and in a little moment of awkwardness they hug before Calleigh pulls away. Eric watches her go, frustrated.
Episode 1.18 -
Dispo Day. While investigating an ambush on a police truck full of drug evidence on its way to being destroyed, Speedle is shot (he was wearing a vest). This leads to an IAB investigation where everyone on the team is questioned to find out who leaked the information about the drug truck. This makes everyone a little uptight. Calleigh is saved from a soda by Eric, who reminds her that they're not supposed to have caffeine, and Calleigh thinks it's funny that Eric feels guilty even when he hasn't done anything wrong. He claims it's because he's Catholic.
Episode 1.20 -
Grave Young Men. Calleigh and Eric are working a case where a few teens have been playing with guns. The case initially starts because an ex-con is looking for his son, who seems to have gone missing, and the ex-con goes to Horatio. The Eric and Calleigh moment comes when Calleigh is going over a tree stump with a fine tooth comb and x-ray to see what kinds of bullets the boys were using. Due to the fact that Calleigh had the x-ray machine going, Eric couldn't help because he didn't have a lead apron and therefore couldn't enter the room, at which point, Calleigh basically tells him to stay out, with an impish grin on her face.
Episode 1.21 -
Spring Break. Eric and Calleigh are investigating the death of a college boy at a motel, who has appeared to have drowned as his body is still at the bottom of the pool. Eric strips down to his wetsuit to retrieve the victim, much to the delight of the bystanding young ladies. A few of these girls hail Calleigh, and ask if he's got a girlfriend after telling Calleigh that her friend is "totally hot". Calleigh, slightly embarrassed by this question, offhandedly answers "Not at the moment" before walking away. She later jokingly tells Eric, who thinks the girls are cute, that the girls thought he was cute, and were wondering if he had a younger brother.
Episode 2.02 - Dead Zone. This is where the flirtation is kind of obvious. Eric has gone diving at a salvage site and found what may have led to a murder, and Horatio and Calleigh are waiting for him back on the boat. As he strips off his gear (too bad for us he didn't take off the wet suit, too!) Calleigh asks what he found. Eric playfully responds "I swear I saw a mermaid." Calleigh's response is a playful and flirtatious "Dream on, Diver Man." This shows how comfortable they are with each other- who else could comment on something like that in that manner except close friends...or people that are more than friends?
Episode 2.03 - Death Grip. When a young, white girl is kidnapped, the entire city goes on full alert. Later on, the team discovers the same man who kidnapped the girl may have kidnapped and killed a young, Cuban girl. Delko is pissed and frustrated at the blatant discrimination shown by the authorities - who roamed heaven and earth looking for the white girl but ignored the Cuban girl's disappearance and dismissed her as a run away. Calleigh is the only member of the team who notices Eric's frustration and tenderly comforts him. At the end of the episode, Eric attends the Cuban girl's wake. Calleigh shows up to support him. Plus Jeff Corwin guest stars and when Eric introduces him to Calleigh, he says 'the pleasure is all mine' and Eric says 'Easy!'
Episode 2.04 -
Hard Time. This episode has to do with a rape victim who keeps fighting. Her "body" is found in a partially constructed condo. Eric was originally supposed to be on the call out, but he called Calleigh to cover for him, which she did. (and obviously this isn't the last time she's covered for him either) Calleigh does get a little angry with him for being late (again) but keeps it between herself and Eric that she thinks that if he'd been the one to have to be at the crime scene, they never would've found the girl alive.
Episode 2.05 - The Best Defense. Calleigh has been secretly seeing Detective John Hagen, and when her father shows up wanting her to examine the evidence to one of his cases, the case is assigned to Eric. As Eric is examining the car where the victim was killed, Hagen tells him to dismiss what turns out to be important evidence. The audience learns during this scene that Eric dislikes Hagen. When Calleigh finds Eric to see how the case is going, Eric openly reveals Hagen wanted him to dismiss important evidence. Eric also tells her he knows about her and Hagen, and the writing vaguely suggests his reasons for disliking Hagen are related to Calleigh. Later on, Calleigh confronts Hagen and breaks up with him.
Episode 2.06 -
Hurricane Anthony. Calleigh and Eric don't really work this case together. However, the Eric and Calleigh moment is at the end, when they compliment each other on solving their respective parts of the case. Eric tells Calleigh that she'd be the only person he knows that would find something good to come out of a hurricane, which makes her smile.
Episode 2.07 -
Grand Prix. The Eric and Calleigh moments are mainly just them teasing each other about something or other. There's also a scene where Eric is trying to get some help from the pit crews and having no luck. When Calleigh stops by and tries her hand, he is shocked to see how easy and quick it seems to be for Calleigh to do stuff like that!
Episode 2.10 - Extreme. Eric gets into a fight and Calleigh is worried. Calleigh gets a little jealous when she finds out it's about a woman.
Episode 2.11 - Complications. Here is another example of their comfortable brand of teasing that can only occur between close friends. Eric is examining the rope used to hang a man in his condo and Calleigh makes the very cliche joke, "Are you tied up?", to which Eric responds, "Cute." with a smile. When she disappointedly asks if she's been beat to it with the joke, Eric can only laugh and tell her that the entire day shift pretty much used the same method.
Episode 2.14 - Stalkerazzi. This is another episode with some seemingly innocent teasing between Eric and Calleigh while working a case. Calleigh is looking through photos and Eric comes in and makes a flip book out of them, thus bringing them to the conclusion that there was something going on that had the people in the pictures looking in a different direction from their original target. More teasing ensues in the firearms lab when Eric comes in, asking the same question of Calleigh and getting his exact answer from her.
Episode 2.15 -
Invasion. A man is taken from his home after an apparently random home invasion. There is never a ransom call, so everyone assumes the worst, especially since the man is identified as a wealthy surfboard manufacturer. Eric and Calleigh really show the extent of their friendship here, when they argue over the fairness of Eric getting to go up in a helicopter to scan the city with a thermal viewer to locate the dump site for the man's body. Eric's rationale is that he was on hand when Horatio ordered the sky search, which entitles him to go. At this point, Calleigh is basically pouting when she tells him that she "expects pictures" since she can't go with him.
Episode 2.18 - Wannabe. A body is found inside a dumpster, covered by ants. Eric asks Calleigh if she wants to do the honors, but Calleigh nervously reveals she has ant phobia. Eric takes over, and later encourages Calleigh to get over her fears by allowing her to crawl inside an ant tank. To this date, Eric is the only member of the team who knows about her fear of ants.
Episode 2.21 - Not Landing. Eric and Calleigh work a case where a pilot who lives in an airstrip neighborhood crash lands on the beach. They find that one of the neighbors is a tech-inclined Peeping Tom, and bet each other on which of the neighbors it is. Calleigh wins and Eric pays up, commenting that his lost bet at least pays for a search warrant.
Episode 2.23 - MIA/NYC- Non- Stop. This is the crossover episode for CSI:NY, where Horatio goes to New York to track down a murderer. The Eric and Calleigh scene is when they start discussing the possibilities of their suspect originally being from New York, or that he still lives under an assumed name.
Episode 3.02 - Pro Per. When a former con is arrested, he acts as his own lawyer and proves to be smarter than he appears. He shows up at the lab, asking to see some important evidence. Calleigh tries to stop him but the con, who is way taller and heavier than her, insists rather brassly. Eric witnesses the confrontation and comes over, gets in between Calleigh and the con and threatens him to use physical force if he doesn't leave. The con man leaves reluctantly, and Calleigh turns to Eric and snaps at him for coming to her rescue. Eric thought she needed a little help, but Calleigh insists he undermined her. Later on, as Calleigh questions Eric about the evidence he is processing, he humorously asks her if she's undermining him. Calleigh smiles and apologizes for snapping at him early on, and admits he was right for coming over to help her. They smile at each other and continue working on the evidence.
Episode 3.04 - Murder in a Flash. Eric and Calleigh investigate a "flash mob" where someone leaves the victim on a golf course. The situation with the students at the school is no better. Seeing the kinds of things the kids do in school, Eric reflects on how he was in school and considers himself an angel compared to the guys toady.
Episode 3.07 - Speed Kills. Eric and Calleigh join forces to play a joke on Ryan. It's the first time we see them laugh together since Speed was killed. It's also impressive that Eric knew what Calleigh was doing without her having to prepare him for the joke.
Episode 3.23 - Whacked. The tension between Eric and Ryan is in full bloom, and Calleigh is forced to play mediator between the two. Later on, when Eric and Calleigh are alone, Eric expresses his unhappiness that Calleigh always defends Ryan. Calleigh denies his accusations, reassuring Eric that he's the one she trusts "with every fiber of my being." Eric smiles and softens up considerably. Perhaps the most important Eric/Calleigh episode. After growing up with an alcoholic father and going through multiple bad relationships, it's easy to see why Calleigh is so guarded of her feelings and why she doesn't trust men. But in this episode we learn that Eric is the only man Calleigh trusts so deeply. That Calleigh revealed something so intimate shows how close these two really are.
Episode 3.24 - 10-7. Disturbed by his ex-partner's suicide and his inability to have Calleigh, John Hagen's mental state is not well. While Calleigh is processing a scene, he slides up behind her and puts a gun to her head. Before Calleigh can see him, he slips away. Calleigh then asks Eric to help her identify the gun. But before she can trace it back to Hagen, he shows up in her lab and puts a bullet through his brain in front of her. Calleigh is in shock after witnessing Hagen's suicide, and while Alexx comes to collect the body, she tells Eric he might be the only one who could get through to her. Eric tries to comfort Calleigh as best as he can, but Calleigh's emotional walls are hard to climb. At the end of the episode, Calleigh resigns her job as a ballistics expert.
Episode 4.08 -
Nailed. This is the episode where Ryan ends up getting shot in the eye with a nail gun at a crime scene that Eric was supposed to be at, but hadn't shown up due to issues that, as we find out later, dealt with Marisol. In this episode, Calleigh happens to see Eric talking to Marisol outside of the hospital after Ryan has been admitted. She assumes that Marisol is just another of his "girlfriends" and, when Marisol leaves, politely tells him that he needs to handle his personal relationships on personal time. This at first glance would seem cold, until you really listen to what Calleigh tells him about losing respect if he keeps messing up at work due to personal problems. Notice that Calleigh is always polite and calm when she talks to Eric about stuff like this, where she would totally blow her top with anyone else. This is classic "Calleigh covering his backside" material.
Episode 4.09 -
Urban Hellraisers. Eric gets caught in a bank robbery committed by a group of people in masks that we later find out were imitating a top rated video game. In this episode, Eric is stuck with analyzing a mask from one of the robbers and running it against a facial recognition program with the Dade University athletic department database. This is one of the times when you really see Calleigh and Eric's friendship flourish, because she can tease and joke with Eric about the things they do, whereas she would never really do the same with anyone else. This shows that they respect and trust each other enough to take the serious talk and the jokes all in stride.
Episode 4.10 - Shattered. Eric's sister Marisol has been diagnosed with cancer, and Eric has been buying marijuana to help her deal with her pain. Earlier in the season, Ryan and Calleigh saw rolling papers in Eric's kit, but they didn't know what they were for. In this episode, Eric's drug dealer reveals Eric has been buying marijuana. It's not long before the gossip makes it to Calleigh, who sours considerably and says Eric would never do drugs. It's important to note that every single character doubted Eric. Even Horatio wondered if Eric really was doing drugs. Calleigh is the only one who refuses to believe it could be true. When Stetler finds out about the whole thing, he is set to fire Eric. He interviews Calleigh and asks her if she's ever seen Eric with any drug paraphernalia. Calleigh lies and says she never has.
Episode 5.01 - Rio. Horatio and Eric travel to Rio to catch Marisol's killer. While they are there, Calleigh is keeping track through their cell phones GPS systems. When Eric goes missing and nearly gets killed, it is Calleigh who discovers his signal has been lost and calls Horatio, who finds Eric and saves his life.
Episode 5.02 - Going Under. When Calleigh is pushed off the road while heading back to the lab, Eric is second only to Horatio in asking how she's doing. He's also the one trying to offer her words of confidence and support when Calleigh starts to doubt herself for not noticing every detail in a life or death situation. By this point in their relationship, you can see that Eric is just a little bit protective of Calleigh in most situations and doesn't like anyone messing with her.
Episode 5.07 - High Octane. This episode focuses around street racing, and the things people will do for money. Eric and Ryan ended up with the crime scene where a boy was decapitated when he was doing some trick driving in a waterfront parking lot. Calleigh comes into the lab when Eric starts to process the evidence and proceeds to tease him about the number of bottles he has to process and how he got the bottles over doing DNA and trace. Then she sticks around to verify Eric's suspicions about the fingerprints found on the bottle.
Episode 5.12 - Internal Affairs. Eric is very irritated by Jake working a case that was originally his.
Episode 5.13 - Throwing Heat. Eric shows up at the lab wearing a suit, and Calleigh doesn't hide her attraction for him. She calls him "hot stuff" and they both blush considerably and flirt a little bit. Later in the episode, Eric witnesses a husband beating his wife and steps in to defend her. Turns out the married couple were scam artists, and they sue Eric for attacking the husband. Eric settles out of court to keep people from looking into the lab's activities, especially after his and Horatio's unsanctioned trip to Rio, and in the end Calleigh comforts him, telling him she has his back.
Episode 5.15 - Man Down. While looking for a kidnapping victim with Horatio, Eric is shot in the head. He dies at the scene, but Horatio convinces the paramedics to work on him and take him to the hospital. Eric's heart stops beating a few times, but the doctor is able to stabilize him. While he's in the hospital fighting for his life, Calleigh shows up and puts a crucifix in his hand. Later on, Calleigh visits him again, and this time Eric is awake. Eric can't move or talk much, but he sweetly whispers her name. Calleigh reassures him everything's gonna be okay, but Eric is in pain and asking for his sister Marisol. Not wanting to tell him that Marisol is dead, she urges Eric to get some rest. Outside his room, Calleigh talks to Alexx, who reveals fragments of the bullet are still in Eric's brain, and that he might not be the guy they always knew him to be. As Calleigh watches him through the viewing glass, she fights back tears. It's the first time the audience sees Calleigh cry.
Episode 5.16 - Broken Home. Eric is back on the job after being shot, but he's having memory and motor problems. After he messes up some evidence Calleigh confronts him, but unlike the way she usually yells at Ryan for messing up, she's very tender and understanding of Eric. But Eric isn't being so nice to himself. He wonders if he came back to work too soon and if he should stop working. Calleigh tells him they all need him.
Episode 5.21 - Just Murdered. The wife who sued Delko for attacking her husband is back, and she's wondering why she hasn't received any money from the suit. But Eric doesn't remember her, due to his brain injury. Calleigh pulls him aside and explains the situation, and tells him to keep working on the case while she deals with the wife. Later on, Eric thanks Calleigh for what she did, and Calleigh reassures him he would've done the same thing for her. But that's not what Eric means. He tells her she's helped him out a lot this year. Calleigh is appreciative of the comment, and without giving it much thought she gets up on her tip toes and kisses him on the cheek. Eric is shocked by this and they look at each other a little awkwardly for a moment before Calleigh walks away. Eric watches her leave with a huge grin on his face.
Episode 5.22 - Burned. After the kiss, the romantic and sexual tension between Eric and Calleigh escalates. While processing a scene, Calleigh gets a glass shard in her finger. Eric comes over quickly and removes it. Their bodies are very close and the tension rises. Calleigh looks at Eric tenderly and whispers his name, but she stops there and for a long moment they continue to look at each other in the eyes before Eric chuckles nervously and looks down, noticing the glass turns out to be an important piece of evidence. In the same episode, Natalia teases Eric about his growing crush on Calleigh. Eric's reaction is one of bashful befuddlement, something no one would have expected from the formerly smooth Eric Delko.
Episode 5.23 - Kill Switch. Eric steps off the elevator and spots Calleigh. He smiles brightly and watches her for a moment. Meanwhile, Calleigh is on the phone, talking to Jake. When she realizes Eric is watching her, she hangs up quickly. Eric comments that it's great to see her smile like that, and if it was Jake on the phone. Calleigh confirms it was, and that if it weren't for the amount of work they both had they could go on a date. However, she changes the subject quickly.
Episode 5.24 - Born To Kill. Jake has been hurt in a car crash. While Eric and Calleigh are at the scene, Eric bitterly comments he bets Jake wishes Calleigh was at the hospital with him. Calleigh stops him, and comments that she went to see Eric while he was in the hospital, too. Eric says it was much different with him. Calleigh realizes Eric is jealous, and reassures him that she trusts him with her life, and meanwhile she doesn't know how she feels about Jake; she's torn between the two. Calleigh confirms she has feelings for Eric, but she tells him they work together. Eric comments that she works with Jake, too, but Calleigh tells him that not as much as she works with Eric, meaning a relationship with him would be inappropriate. Eric smiles, however. He only cares about the fact that she admitted she feels the same way about him. It's a small victory but he'll take it. Later in the episode, Jake goes to the lab and kisses Calleigh in the lobby. Eric, who is in one of the rooms, witnesses the kiss morosely. Later, Calleigh gets in the elevator and looks back. She realizes Eric saw the whole thing. She looks down, feeling guilty, while Eric stands there looking heartbroken and maybe a little bitter.
Episode 6.01 - Dangerous Son. Eric sees Calleigh at their latest crime scene and notes out loud that she has a nice new tan. When Calleigh tells him it's the product of five days in Antigua, he tells her that Jake has the same tan, and his jealousy is obvious. He sees Jake a little while later and asks him how it was in Antigua. Jake turns to him and tells him it was nice, causing Eric to lift an eyebrow, seemingly holding back a retort. His displeasure in knowing that Calleigh and Jake went on a vacation away from Miami together is evident in the looks he gives them both for the rest of the episode.
Episode 6.04 - Bang, Bang Your Debt. In this episode, Eric and Calleigh start out investigating a car fire with a DOA and a victim in critical condition at the hospital. While on the scene, Eric starts having visions of Speedle, and Calleigh has another lab tech catch photos of everything in and around the crime scene, which results in a few pictures of Eric with a look on his face that simply said "I am seeing a dead person". Calleigh questions Eric about this, out of concern, and he shrugs it off. Later, they find out that someone is using Speedle's credit card, and Eric feels as if this is validation for his visions. He also starts thinking that maybe Speed has come back to haunt and help out with the case. It turns out that Eric, as a result of his shooting, may occasionally have hallucinations of a familiar nature. Calleigh and Eric discover that it's Dan Cooper using Speedle's credit card, which he stole from Speed's old locker.
Episode 6.05 - Deep Freeze. This is the episode where Eric is informed by Stetler that there is a pending change in the department's fraternization regulations. This occurs after Stetler sees Eric hug Natalia after popping her shoulder back into place. Eric lets it slip that if IAB wants to reprimand Calleigh and Jake for having a relationship, they should do their own dirty work. Stetler is in shock and tells Eric that he'd meant Eric himself and Natalia, and Eric realizes his mistake. Eric tries to get in touch with Calleigh, but to no avail, so she finds out from a cold and distant Jake that they can't work the same cases anymore if they continue their relationship. Jake's true colors come out when he tells Calleigh they should back off from each other, instead of fight for their relationship. Calleigh gets upset when Eric comes clean about the matter, more so becuase she thinks he did it out of spite. Calleigh doesn't even give Eric much of a chance to explain the situation, which shows just how hurt she is by his supposed betrayal.
Episode 6.06 - Sunblock. Tensions are high as a result of the events of the previous episode, where Eric unknowingly informs IAB about Calleigh and Jake's relationship, which goes against new department policy and has prompted Jake to suggest that the two of them should cool it off. When Eric carefully notes that Calleigh's still mad at him for what happened, Calleigh tells him that she's not, and that Eric had only sped up the inevitable. With that confirmation in mind, Eric informs Calleigh that if he had been in the same position, he would've switched to the night shift, making it clear that Calleigh means much more to him than his job. Calleigh looks touched by his sincerity, and after smiling and saying to him, "that's sweet," she seems to consider his words for a moment, likely making a quick mental comparison between Eric and Jake, who, upon being informed of the pending changes in department policy, immediately tried to protect his own career by backing away from their relationship. This shows that Jake is not really committed to Calleigh, while Eric would put her at the top of his priority list.
Episode 6.09 - Stand Your Ground. When Calleigh is involved in an off-duty shooting that results in two deaths, Eric is the first and arguably the only person to make an effort to comfort Calleigh. He joins her at the back of the ambulance on scene and asks the tough questions, provides the words of comfort and holds her when she cries. Calleigh is the rock of the team and never dares show vulnerability, so it is significant that she would even allow herself to cry in Eric's presence, never mind cry as Eric holds her. This shows her implicit trust in him. Conversely, Jake shows very little interest in Calleigh's well-being, even after being confronted about the fact that his drinking has gotten her into deeper trouble with IAB. Later, after Eric has extracted the bullet that would clear Calleigh's name, she smiles and thanks him, but her smile quickly wanes when Eric reveals that Jake was the one who had come to him with the information about the bullet. Eric reluctantly comments that maybe Jake is a stand-up guy after all, but from Calleigh's reaction, it seems that she is questioning that herself.
Episode 6.10 - My Nanny. While Eric and Calleigh are processing a teenage suspect's room, Calleigh makes an off-handed remark about children by asking Eric if he could imagine raising kids given the hours that they work. Eric immediately responds affirmatively, which elicits a rather surprised look from Calleigh. Eric jokingly suggests that Calleigh is implying that he wouldn't make a good father, but Calleigh replies by saying that he'd make a great father, but she had merely been surprised because Eric had never mentioned having children before. Eric then makes a very loaded comment about how he would like to start a family when he finds the right girl. Calleigh bites her lip, clearly catching what Eric had meant. Before Calleigh really has a chance to formulate a reply, Eric finds the evidence that they had been searching for and draws Calleigh's attention to it, satisfied that he has made his point.
Episode 6.13 - Raising Caine. This is where Horatio is trying to get Kyle out of prison, and suddenly Julia appears out of nowhere. Calleigh is so determined to nail the murder charges on Julia. Eric gets the results and proves that Calleigh is wrong and jumped the gun with assumption.
Episode 6.14 - You May Now Kill The Bride.
Calleigh and Eric go back to the scene of the murder to recreate the moment in order to discover the intended target. Calleigh stands at the alter and puts on the bride's fake veil. Eric has a smile on his face and looks at her longingly. Calleigh smiles back and tells Eric, "If you tell anyone I did this, I'll kill you." Eric returns the smile and continues the investigation.
Episode 6.15 - Ambush.
When Eric realizes Calleigh has been kidnapped he goes way beyond the amount of worrying the rest of the team is feeling. And when he sees Cooper posted Calleigh's new number he races to Cooper's house, kicks down the door and takes Cooper to the ground. He screams at Cooper asking where Calleigh is. When Cooper denies the fact of having anything to do with it and says he was just having a little fun, Eric says "A criminal could have called her out. You think about that? If anything happens to her I will come back here and kill you." then he leaves. You could really feel the emotion, concern and most of all the care in his voice.
Episode 6.16 - ALL IN. Calleigh has been kidnapped and of course, the team tries to find her. Eric is particularly concerned with her welfare (Gee, I wonder why!). He is in the lab with Natalia and she notes that there are a lot of similarities between the case of Kathleen Newberry and Calleigh's. Eric says, "I won't let Calleigh end up like that other woman." He gets upset a lot in the episode, especially because the tow truck drivers aren't careful, and he thinks that if they paid attention more, Calleigh might not be missing. Natalia says that she knows what he's saying, but the important thing is finding her. She knows he's upset because he is in love with Calleigh, and he worries for her safety. Later in the episode, while questioning a suspect, Eric makes the suspect tell him the location of the poker game, after the man tells him, he says, "You better hope you're right." To the other suspect he says, "Do you know where CSI Duquesne is, because if you do, you better tell me. Lt. Caine is working on the killer's fingerprint, and if they match yours' I'm not going to be so nice the second time." Later, at Club Descent, Ryan, Eric and Frank point guns at Seth, the kidnapper, and Eric looks the most intense, and in the end, he's the person who gets to hold Calleigh and comfort her. An important detail is that
SHE goes to
HIM. At the end of the episode, he asks her if she's going to be ok, she says that she will. He asks if she'll take off work, she says that she doesn't know, that all she wants to do is go home and think about what happened, and she smiles a little at him, and tries to get into her car. He stops her by saying, "Hey, you're not going home alone." Calleigh tells him that she's fine, but thanks him. Eric says he's not fine, basically insisting that she let him come with her; it would make him feel better. He tells her, "I'm not. I don't know what I would have done if something would have happened to you today." And at that, she agrees "Okay" and he opens the Hummer door for her. She smiles and gets in, he goes around front with a huge grin on his face, Calleigh opens his door by reaching across the seat, which she didn't have to do. When he gets in, they smile and make googly-eyes at each other before driving away. It's a moment that shows how much they really care about each other.
Episode 6.21 - Going Ballistic. This episode was the season 6 finale. Calleigh shows up at the crime scene where Eric is already processing evidence. This is after Calleigh takes the refresher course that should have been Eric's (from "Ambush" where he dropped his notes). Calleigh took the course instead to keep Stetler off of Eric's back about his procedures, since Eric had already had to deal with that issue when he first returned to work after his accident. Some of Calleigh's ballistic evidence turns out to be old (really old!) and one drops on the floor in the lab and goes off, which causes havoc to the firearms lab. Eric comes to the rescue to help Calleigh retrieve the one bullet that isn't compromised so they have something to go on. Calleigh tells Eric that he's her "hero" when he finds the only uncompromised round.
Episode 7.03 - And How Does That Make You Kill?. Eric's therapist's (Dr. Rachel March) daughter is killed. After the body is removed Dr. Marsh goes to her office to find
ALL of her patient files missing. While Eric and the team try to find the missing files Dr.Marsh is murdered. After finding the files Eric is trying to find who might have killed her and reads the patient files, convincing Calleigh to help. While going through the files Calleigh finds Eric's and although apprensively she reads it. After I was shot.. it really put things in perspective...made me think about my future...settling down... it would be nice if it were
CALLEIGH. Awkward moment. At the end of the episode Calleigh tells Eric that he can tell her anything. Calleigh walks away smiling, and we see Eric behind her, looking satisfied.
Episode 7.09 - Power Trip. This is one of those episodes that shows you the side of Eric and Calleigh's relationship- meaning the side where they do normal things, like disagree on something. This episode focuses on a killer who blinds his victims and electro-tortures them. The argument between Eric and Calleigh is that Eric believes that another cop, in fact the cop that worked an almost identical case before being put on desk duty, is the killer; Calleigh believes that his actions, although suspicious, are those of a cop who wants to see the perpetrator of the crimes brought to justice. Calleigh later changes her mind and agrees with Eric when said cop (Reggie Mastow) corners her in the elevator and gets a bit overaggressive to the point where Calleigh almost feels the need to draw her weapon.
Episode 7.10 - The Deluca Motel. Eric is somewhat involved in a shooting at a motel, where we later find out he's been living in for a while. When the team gets to the scene, Horatio asks the obvious question: Why are you here? Eric gives him a line that his condo is being remodeled and he's been living cheap in the motel until it's done. Calleigh comes and helps Eric process the crime scene and shows her concern for him staying in a motel. Calleigh then tells him that she doesn't want him to get hurt. Eric tells Calleigh that he's just trying to figure some things out. We later find out that Eric has discovered that his birth certificate is a fake and that he was really born in Cuba. We also find out that part of the shooting at the motel was a hit put on Eric by his biological father, Alexander Sharova.
Episode 7.12 - Head Case. A man (Doug Benson) is found roaming the streets of Miami covered with blood and no memory to explain it all. Eric feels sorry for Doug because he knows how hard it is not to remember anything. Felling a bit worried for Eric, Calleigh asks Eric if he ok. After being comforted by Calleigh , Eric tells Calleigh that her friendship is very important to him and that he knows that she read his file (from episode 7.03). Later Calleigh tells Eric that she is confused about what happened (and what was said) earlier and that she doesn't know if he believes "it" himself (probably referring to what he said in the file) and asks if he understands what she's saying. To that all Eric mumbled was "I do" after Calleigh walked away. Also when Frank interrupts them at a point saying "well who's organizing this picnic", Eric mouthes "Damn", like he's mad that Frank interrupted their conversation. It is a great step forward for the flourishing relationship.
Episode 7.13 - And They're Offed. A horse owner (Robert Banyon) was murdered while watching a horse race. While Calleigh and Eric are investigating the scene, Eric says "What happened to you last night/ Thought you were coming by Brennon's; we had a table in the back." "Oh. I went home, did some emails, went to sleep; I was tired. I'm sorry." Calleigh replied. "No need to be sorry you just missed out on a good time, that's all," said Eric. When investigating, Calleigh notes the food prepared on the table. She sees a box of truffles, and explains to Eric that they are her favorite. At the end of the episode, we see Eric at his locker, getting his things. He then walks through the lab calling for Calleigh. He sees the "on Duty" board and then realizes that Calleigh's marker now reads, "off duty". He reaches into his bag and pulls out the same box of truffles that Calleigh had talked about earlier, and places them on the lab table with her name on it. He smiles and then leaves.
Episode 7.14 - Smoke Gets in Your CSI's.
Calleigh and Ryan get out of Calleigh's Hummer at the newest crime scene; they are the first responders. They joke about Calleigh's driving. When walking up to the door, Ryan says " So what is going on with you and Delko, by the way?" She responds with, "What are you talking about?" "Come on Calleigh, you know exactly what I'm talking about." said Ryan. "Oh please! Give it a rest." Calleigh says ending the conversation. When in the house, they get locked in the attic during the fire. They both make it out with the body but Calleigh is coughing a lot. Then later on, Calleigh and Eric are in a interrogation and Calleigh starts to cough uncontrollably. She forces out the words, "I can't Breathe!" with a raspy voice, and then continues to cough, falling to the ground (at which point Eric catches her, and calls for assistance [if you are a detailed observer, you will notice that Eric moves her hair out of her face when they are on the ground.]). Eric rides with Calleigh to the Hospital in the back of the Ambulance. He is the one pushing the stretcher into the ER, as if he wants to make sure she gets there and gets the treatment she needs. Once Calleigh is breathing on her own, or with the help of Nitric oxide anyways, Eric is sitting with the assumed asleep Calleigh in her room. He explains to her that her doctors have her on Nitric Oxide to help her breathe, and that she can't stay on it forever. That it will turn on her if she doesn't get the 'peep' number down to 4. Eric then says, " You're gonna get through this. Ok? I know you will." he says moving closer, "You have to. I can't imagine going to work without you." he pauses for a while staring at her beautiful sleeping face and then continues, "I can't imagine living my life without you." The investigation is still ongoing and Ryan calls Eric. He tells him that the vic was a doctor and he needs him to investigate. Eric hangs up and looks up at Calleigh's numbers. He reluctantly gets up. He thinks for a moment. We then see him put his watch on Calleigh's wrist and then walks out. Later we see Calleigh wake up alone in the room, she realizes whats on her wirst, and she looks up at the ceiling, appearing to be thinking. Next scene, Eric comes in to her hospital room, pulling back the curtain. She says, "Hey"! Eric is smiling really big, glad to see her awake and without and Breathing tube, "hey" he replies. He comes over to her side. "i um- I put my watch on you so I'd know I was here. In case you woke up while I was out on the Investigation." "I knew you were here," Calleigh says.Eric is a little embarassed when he continues, "How'd you know I was here? You couldn't-" He stops. "Could you hear me? You heard what I said?" She says, "Yeah. It was like a dream." Eric confirms her hopes when he says, "It was real" and nods. "Will you stay with me?" Calleigh asks. He says 'No' jokingly, and they both laugh. He then sits down while saying, "As long as you want me to. - As long as you want me to" [another detailed observation: for a breif moment when Eric sits down, you can see Calleigh's hand in his!!!! it's right at time 42:28 on the CBS video on their website!]
Episode 7.16 - Sink or Swim.
As
Eric and Natalia are collecting evidence, Immigration Agents show up and ask for Eric Delko. Eric responds and then they place him under arrest. When Eric was in jail, the first person to visit him is none other than Calleigh! They have a very serious and intimate conversation: Calleigh wanted to know why Eric didn't tell her when he found out that his birth certificate was a fake. Eric explains that he just "couldn't wrap his brain around it". Calleigh then asks, "We're supposed to do stuff together now right? All the stuff you said at the hospital, about us?" "I meant all of it. Its like, all of a sudden, my life is a lie." Eric responds. Calleigh tries to comfort him by saying, "It's all right, I happen to like the lie." They both smile, "You could have told me." She continues. "This is crazy" Eric said worried. "Yeah, We'll get through it." Calleigh finished. In order to get Eric of the hook, the team is on edge to help. Horatio and Calleigh are in the lab trying to find out where Eric's father is from; it turns out that Alexander Sharova was actually born in New Mexico, therefore Eric's father is a US citizen. So Horatio goes to see Sharova and tries to convince him to vouch for Eric. We then see Horatio talking to Eric in jail; Horatio explains that Eric is going to be released. Eric wants to know how he did it, and Horatio tells Eric that it wasn't him [we then see Sharova in the background]. We see Eric sign the release papers and he is given his badge back. The next thing we see, is Calleigh waiting outside for Eric. "You missed out!" she says. He runs over to her and they the give each other a hug. "I was going to marry you, but your dad stepped in." She said jokingly. Eric laughed, "What makes you think I would say yes? Maybe I met someone special on the inside." "I doubt his cooking is as good as mine." she kids, "Hey, why don't I take you back to my place and make you a traditional American dinner, since you're new to our country." "Sounds good," he responds, "but danger has been following me everywhere I go-" Calleigh cuts him off and then gives him a tender kiss! "Calleigh, I'm serious, I don't want anything to happen to you-" She kisses him again! "Come on, I have the safest house in Miami. Do you know how many guns I have?" she jokes, and they both laugh. "You protected me, I'll protect you," Calleigh says. They walk off together with their arms around each other's waist.
Episode 7.18 - Flight Risk. The first Eric and Calleigh scene we see is right after a commercial break; we see a 1st class section of a plane. In the back row we happen to see Eric and Calleigh. They are laughing and smiling and drinking white wine; "Eric... Eric... Eric." Eric is pulled from his daydream by Calleigh. They are supposed to be investigating the plane. Later in the episode, Ryan and Natalia discover the Romp Room of the airplane. Ryan says, "I can't believe they have these little love nests in planes! You know, I think we need one of these." "I know, Right! We could convert firearms!" she jokes. "Sure. I could think of two people who would enjoy that," Ryan comments. "Yeah? who?" Ryan gives Natalia that 'i can not believe you just asked that' look. "Calleigh and Delko? No way. Do you have proof?" she asks suspiciously. "I don't have any proof, I just have a feeling. But I-" Ryan says. "oh LALALA" Natalia cuts him off, and they go back to investigating. The next Calleigh and Eric scene takes place in the lab. Eric is scanning luggage tag after luggage tag, and we see Calleigh walk in. She brings Eric coffee. They start working, and we see Eric sweetly look at her. If you read lips, you can see that Calleigh says "Here you go" as she hands Eric the cup of coffee.
Episode 7.19 - Target Specific.
In this episode, the CSIs are investigating a woman's stabbing in her own home. She claims that she shot her attacker, but there's no blood evidence. The first Eric and Calleigh scene is in the lab, where Calleigh "steals" a can of solvent from the maintenance guy for Eric. At first she's a little worried that Eric is messing up the test, until he explains what he's doing and she observes. You can almost see the "Isn't he so smart?" look on Calleigh's face! Calleigh goes back to the scene to look for more evidence after getting more information from the victim and is attacked by the same person. Eric drives up and scares the guy off, only to run into the house after hearing a gate slam. Calleigh tells him that the attacker returned and he instantly worries about her well being. She focuses on collecting the little bit of evidence that could lead them to the attacker and Eric hovers until she tells him that she's fine. Later, Eric joins Ryan in the lab and goes over photos from another suspect, only to find pictures of Calleigh. Eric acts slightly jealous when he sees a picture of Calleigh on horseback with Terrence the horse trainer. Ryan comments on this particular picture: "It looks like you have some competition." "You don't know what you're talking about", replies Eric. Ryan then discovers that the photos aren't only of Calleigh but of all of the CSI team. Eric later has Calleigh meet him in the morgue with prints of all of the pictures of the CSIs: "We're being watched." Calleigh's first reflex is that someone knows about her and Eric's relationship. "No. Not you and me. Our entire team. We're all in danger." Eric says. Calleigh finally realizes who is in all of the pictures and asks who took them. Eric tells her that it's the Russians, or someone working for the Russians, and then Calleigh sees the photo of her with Terrence on horseback. (Here's where the green eyed monster of jealousy comes out!) Calleigh suggests that she should call Terrence after Eric says that he might be in danger as well. When Eric sees her go through her cell phone, he gets a little bent. Calleigh sees this reaction and stops: "That was one afternoon. You know that, right?" "Then why is his number in your cell phone?" Eric asks. With a smile for Eric and a shrug, Calleigh calmly and quietly replies, "I don't know. It was before you and me. Can we talk about this tonight?" Eric gives her a little smile and he's on his merry way. This shows that they've ditched any efforts of denying their feelings for each other and have resorted to "you and me".
Episode 7.20 - Wolfe In Sheeps Clothing.
In the first scene it shows Eric and Calleigh at her house and Calleigh gets in the shower first and then Eric does and then when Eric gets out of the shower. Calleigh comes into the room and he sees her and he starts smiling at her and she starts smiling back!!! I cant believe they're living together now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Updated By.Calleigh Johnson Better Known as HippHuggers4EverEpisode 7.22 - Dead on Arrival. The only real decent E/C scene is when they are checking out the tire tread marks. Eric is telling Calleigh how out of place he feels in the lab since everyone else is buzzing about the victim's death. Poor Eric tells her that it's like being in a foreign country where he doesn't speak the language. Calleigh tells him that it's a girls' thing, and he comments that in as many years as he's known her, she's still able to surprise him. Then he finally catches that she said she used to watch and questions why she stopped. Calleigh tells him that she has a new diversion and starts to describe him in detail.
Episode 7.24 - Dissolved. The first scene with Calleigh and Eric is at the crime scene when they have to neutralize the pool to get the body out. The conversation was a little flirty but not too much. Eric gets a phone call and later tells Calleigh that it was his real dad. Calleigh pleads with Eric to be careful dealing with his father, since he's a member of the Russian crime organization.
Episode 7.25 - Seeing Red. Calleigh again tells Eric to be careful when dealing with Sharova. This kind of starts the argument going on between them concerning Eric's loyalties and morals. Calleigh also tells Eric that she won't watch him go down the path that he's heading down- getting involved in his biological father's mess. Calleigh is really worried at the end because she may have shot Eric and he's not in the car where they found Sharova.
Episode 8.01 -
Out of Time. This is the highly anticipated Season Premiere, where Calleigh and Horatio, and a whole bunch of uniformed police officers and dogs are out in the Everglades looking for Eric after he lost control of the car he was driving in last season's finale. They find Eric relatively quickly, considering the expanse of the Glades, and he is rushed to the hospital. Calleigh's reactions to searching for Eric are apparent as she does something she's never been known to do- she questions Horatio: "What if he's fallen in the water and he's unconscious?" Once they get Eric to the hospital (Horatio rides in the ambulance with Eric, Calleigh follows close behind in her Hummer), Alexx takes over, much like she did when Calleigh was rushed in. Alexx later comes out to find Calleigh, who is in the waiting room, only to offer up little encouragement: "He's young and he's strong." Calleigh loses composure again in front of Alexx, which in itself shows how much she really cares for Eric (and how little she cares about appearances in front of Alexx, especially on matters of the heart). Calleigh finally asks Alexx if Eric's gonna be okay, to which Alexx gives no answer- verbal or otherwise- which sends them both to tears again. In the flashback parts of the episode, we see Calleigh and Eric's first conversation, when Eric was still the smooth talking "player" hitting on the pretty blonde chick. Of course, the scene is only made more comical because of the fact that Calleigh doesn't fall for his line, and she basically tells him he's wasting his time hitting on her because she'd "never consider even socializing with someone even remotely linked to her job". (If she only knew she'd be eating her words!) When Eric finally starts waking up, we see the two most important people in his life at the head of his bed on either side- Horatio on one side and Calleigh on the other, with Alexx, Frank, Ryan and Natalia at the foot of the bed. Calleigh's relief when Eric finally opens his eyes is so transparent, a person would have to be blind NOT to see it!
Episode 8.02 -
Hostile Takeover. This episode focuses more on the new kid on the block- Jesse Cardoza. The only mention of Eric comes in the beginning of the episode when Natalia tells Calleigh that she thought Calleigh would take a personal day since Eric was just released from the hospital. Calleigh's response to this is that the department lawyers advised she and Eric not have any contact until after the investigation into the armory shooting is closed. Natalia asks if she at least got to tell him that she hadn't shot at him on purpose, to which Calleigh distantly responds "But I did shoot at him. He was a suspect fleeing an active crime scene." Although this sounds EXTREMELY cold, the look on Calleigh's face showed everything that her words did not- she was torn between duty and wanting to be with Eric, regardless of the situation. The "cold shoulder" facade was just her way of compartmentalizing the situation to get through it.
Episode 8.03 -
Bolt Action. The investigation into the armory shooting is finally coming to a head with the interviews of Calleigh and Eric with Rick Stetler. Although still not able to say anything to each other in their first scene together, the looks across the room say it all- it's almost as if they're trying to say everything they can to each other just through their eyes. When questioned on her "big freeze" response to Eric by Ryan, Calleigh explains (again) that she and Eric aren't allowed to talk to each other until after the investigation is closed. The interviews with Stetler get a little dicey, as it seems that Stetler is trying to pit them against each other without them knowing it. He questions Calleigh's actions in firing on Eric, and questions Eric's reasons for being at the crime scene in the capacity that he was. They somehow make it through the interviews fairly unscathed, with what seems like the slight exception of a few little doubts: Stetler tries to get Eric to admit to dating his partner (Eric calls Calleigh his former partner, therefore not breaching department policy on dating coworkers); Stetler, however, tells Calleigh that Eric called himself her "former boyfriend", trying to make her believe that Eric is breaking off their personal relationship in favor of their working relationship. Stetler also tries to make it sound like Eric has an issue with Calleigh's apparent inability to trust the men in her life, when Eric is the only person that Calleigh trusts without exceptions. When they are finally allowed to talk to each other at the end of the episode, Eric tells Calleigh that he believes Stetler twisted things around on them, and Calleigh agrees. Then it's back to their usual friendly banter: Eric says (with a grin!) that he's allowed to come back to work pending medical clearances, and that he'll be working with Calleigh again despite the fact that she shot at him. Calleigh's rebuttal to this is that he drove a car at her, which leads to them calling a truce and just celebrating that Eric is okay and that he'll be coming back to work.
Episode 8.05 -
Bad Seed. Eric is finally cleared to return to work and he immediately starts in on a case of E-Coli poisoning. The whole team, including the new guys, is working this case as one victim is dead and a second (the first victim's boyfriend) is in a coma after an attack of the what is presumed the same poisoning as his girlfriend. Horatio and Calleigh divide the team up into sections, and Calleigh automatically takes Eric so they can work on tracing the source of the poison. Her first words to him, once they are alone, are "welcome back" with her typical 'I'm so happy to see you, Eric' smile. As the case carries on, Calleigh seems to notice that the Eric that she's used to seeing at work- the one that is determined to solve the case without getting too wrapped up in the politics and emotions of it all- isn't the Eric that she's working with now. She sees that Eric seems to be pulling away from not only her but the rest of the team as well, and that he's not as level-headed as normal. At a later part of the investigation, Calleigh sits next to him and tells him that she's really happy he's all right and that she's happy that he's back at work, and Eric's response to this is that he's not so sure he feels the same. She continues to study him, as if trying to figure out what's bugging him. In their last scene together in the locker room, Eric comes in and starts cleaning out his locker, not knowing that Calleigh is in there at her locker. He almost guiltily asks what's she's still doing at work, and after answering that she was catching up on some of her other cases, she tells him that she knows what he's doing. When he asks for elaboration on that statement, she basically asks if he's leaving CSI. Eric comes around the lockers to face her and tells her that she's always been good at reading him, and asks that she not say anything to anyone else because he's not ready to talk about it. When she asks why he's leaving, he only tells her that there are a lot of reasons, and his eyes seem to say that one of those reasons is that he wants to persue their personal relationship, which is impossible if he stays due to department policy. Calleigh asks what's going to happen to them ("you and me") to which he doesn't give a verbal response, only saying that she knows him too well. Eric steps forward and kisses her briefly before pulling her into a hug, where we can see that Calleigh is just barely holding back the tears that so desperately want to fall. He touches her cheek and turns to walk out, and all Calleigh is able to do is stand there and watch him walk out of one aspect of her life.
Episode 8.11 -
Delko for the Defense. Eric finally returns to CSI, but on the other side of things- he's the expert witness for the defense in a murder investigation. Going by episode timeline alone, it looks as if Eric has been missing from Miami for about 6 weeks, and we later find that Calleigh seems to have been the only one on the team privy to Eric's whereabouts- Puerto Rico. Eric's return is met with some animosity from Frank and Jesse, Frank for the slight feeling of betrayal and Jesse because he doesn't seem to happy to see Calleigh's obvious joy at having Eric around again. Calleigh is really happy to see Eric, even at the crime scene where he's basically watching their every move and looking for loopholes in their interpretation of the evidence that may work for the defense. When the case seems to be closed, and Eric is no longer required to shadow the team, Calleigh asks what he's planning on doing- going back to Puerto Rico, etc. Eric's answer to Calleigh is one of the biggest HipHugger moments of the season so far: He says that although he loved it in Puerto Rico, he missed Miami- and when he says Miami, the look in his eyes as he gazes at her makes you think that misisng Miami is code for "I missed you". Calleigh returns the gaze and says that Miami missed him which, in code, would mean "I missed you, too." Calleigh then proceeds to tell Eric that she heard the state attorney's office is looking for a forensic expert, and he decides to think about it as a fairly nice lateral career move. The episode ends with Eric walking into the state attorney's office, presumably for an interview. We are left to wonder what the outcome of said interview will be, and how it will affect Eric and his relationship with Calleigh, although the most positive thought to come to mind is that they will still be on the same side, and it would almost be like working together, without the departmental policy on personal relationships between coworkers standing in their way.
