eric and calliegh - CSI Miami

Eric Delko and Calleigh Duquesne are the oldest members of Horatio's team. An underwater recovery and ballistics expert respectively, Eric and Calleigh share a long, complicated history of friendship and often a bit of ambiguity. We saw Eric sitting back and exhibiting a little jealousy every time Calleigh talked to John Hagen, and as Eric's feelings for Calleigh developed and came to the forefront, his discomfort and perhaps disapproval of Calleigh's current boyfriend, Jake Berkeley, became evident. We saw Calleigh exhibiting a little bit of jealousy as well when she thought Marisol (Eric's sister) was actually his girlfriend, and though Calleigh can be seen as emotionally closed off, she has never hesitated to express that her trust for him runs deep. Mostly, these are the only two characters on the show who have constantly been there for each other, supporting each other through their worst trials.

Important Moments in Eric and Calleigh's History

1. Episode 1.03 - Wet Foot/Dry Foot. Horatio riles up the Cuban community by interrogating the family of a young refugee that was found dead in a raft in the middle of the ocean. To try and avoid the conflict with his neighbors, Eric asks Calleigh if he can crash at her place. Calleigh avoids the question and Eric nervously explains why he doesn't want to go home. Calleigh is reluctant, but finally agrees, and adds, "No midnight tiptoe, deal?" Eric deals laughingly, knowing exactly what the term means, and he starts to slide up behind Calleigh. She's neither unaware nor opposed to this, and the sexually charged moment ends when she asks him to look at some evidence she's discovered.

2. Episode 1.17 - Simple Man.A man responsible for killing a woman is about to be found innocent by the county, until a second body is discovered. The team has very little time to prove that the man did it before the case is thrown out. Eric has been diving all night through sewage to find the gun used to kill the victim, while Calleigh has been stressed out tackling two cases at once. They meet in the hallway and Calleigh inquires about the gun. Eric tells her he put it in her lab to process hours before. Calleigh rather snappily admits she's been so busy she must not have seen it, and Eric tells her they've all been working hard. Calleigh stops and apologizes, and in a little moment of awkwardness they hug before Calleigh pulls away. Eric watches her go, frustrated.

3. Episode 2.04 - Death Grip. When a young, white girl is kidnapped, the entire city goes on full alert. Later on, the team discovers the same man who kidnapped the girl may have kidnapped and killed a young, Cuban girl. Delko is pissed and frustrated at the blatant discrimination shown by the authorities - who roamed heaven and earth looking for the white girl but ignored the Cuban girl's disappearance and dismissed her as a run away. Calleigh is the only member of the team who notices Eric's frustration and tenderly comforts him. At the end of the episode, Eric attends the Cuban girl's wake. Calleigh shows up to support him. Plus Jeff Corwin guest stars and when Eric introduces him to Calleigh, he says 'the pleasure is all mine' and Eric says 'Easy!'

4. Episode 2.05 - The Best Defense. Calleigh has been secretly seeing Detective John Hagen, and when her father shows up wanting her to examine the evidence to one of his cases, the case is assigned to Eric. As Eric is examining the car where the victim was killed, Hagen tells him to dismiss what turns out to be important evidence. The audience learns during this scene that Eric dislikes Hagen. When Calleigh finds Eric to see how the case is going, Eric openly reveals Hagen wanted him to dismiss important evidence. Eric also tells her he knows about her and Hagen, and the writing vaguely suggests his reasons for disliking Hagen are related to Calleigh. Later on, Calleigh confronts Hagen and breaks up with him.

5. Episode 2.10 - Extreme. Eric gets into a fight and Calleigh is worried. Calleigh gets a little jealous when she finds out it's about a woman.

6. Episode 2.18 - Wannabe. A body is found inside a dumpster, covered by ants. Eric asks Calleigh if she wants to do the honors, but Calleigh nervously reveals she has ant phobia. Eric takes over, and later encourages Calleigh to get over her fears by allowing her to crawl inside an ant tank. To this date, Eric is the only member of the team who knows about her fear of ants.

7. Episode 3.02 - Pro Per. When a former con is arrested, he acts as his own lawyer and proves to be smarter than he appears. He shows up at the lab, asking to see some important evidence. Calleigh tries to stop him but the con, who is way taller and heavier than her, insists rather brassly. Eric witnesses the confrontation and comes over, gets in between Calleigh and the con and threatens him to use physical force if he doesn't leave. The con man leaves reluctantly, and Calleigh turns to Eric and snaps at him for coming to her rescue. Eric thought she needed a little help, but Calleigh insists he undermined her. Later on, as Calleigh questions Eric about the evidence he is processing, he humorously asks her if she's undermining him. Calleigh smiles and apologizes for snapping at him early on, and admits he was right for coming over to help her. They smile at each other and continue working on the evidence.

8. Episode 3.08 - Speed Kills. Eric and Calleigh join forces to play a joke on Ryan. It's the first time we see them laugh together since Speed was killed. It's also impressive that Eric knew what Calleigh was doing without her having to prepare him for the joke.

9. Episode 3.23 - Whacked. The tension between Eric and Ryan is in full bloom, and Calleigh is forced to play mediator between the two. Later on, when Eric and Calleigh are alone, Eric expresses his unhappiness that Calleigh always defends Ryan. Calleigh denies his accusations, reassuring Eric that he's the one she trusts "with every fiber of my being." Eric smiles and softens up considerably. Perhaps the most important Eric/Calleigh episode. After growing up with an alcoholic father and going through multiple bad relationships, it's easy to see why Calleigh is so guarded of her feelings and why she doesn't trust men. But in this episode we learn that Eric is the only man Calleigh trusts so deeply. That Calleigh revealed something so intimate shows how close these two really are.

10. Episode 3.24 - 10-7. Disturbed by his ex-partner's suicide and his inability to have Calleigh, John Hagen's mental state is not well. While Calleigh is processing a scene, he slides up behind her and puts a gun to her head. Before Calleigh can see him, he slips away. Calleigh then asks Eric to help her identify the gun. But before she can trace it back to Hagen, he shows up in her lab and puts a bullet through his brain in front of her. Calleigh is in shock after witnessing Hagen's suicide, and while Alexx comes to collect the body, she tells Eric he might be the only one who could get through to her. Eric tries to comfort Calleigh as best as he can, but Calleigh's emotional walls are hard to climb. At the end of the episode, Calleigh resigns her job as a ballistics expert.

11. Episode 4.10 - Shattered. Eric's sister Marisol has been diagnosed with cancer, and Eric has been buying marijuana to help her deal with her pain. Earlier in the season, Ryan and Calleigh saw rolling papers in Eric's kit, but they didn't know what they were for. In this episode, Eric's drug dealer reveals Eric has been buying marijuana. It's not long before the gossip makes it to Calleigh, who sours considerably and says Eric would never do drugs. It's important to note that every single character doubted Eric. Even Horatio wondered if Eric really was doing drugs. Calleigh is the only one who refuses to believe it could be true. When Stetler finds out about the whole thing, he is set to fire Eric. He interviews Calleigh and asks her if she's ever seen Eric with any drug paraphernalia. Calleigh lies and says she never has.

12. Episode 5.01 – Rio. Horatio and Eric travel to Rio to catch Marisol's killer. While they are there, Calleigh is keeping track through their cell phones GPS systems. When Eric goes missing and nearly gets killed, it is Calleigh who discovers his signal has been lost and calls Horatio, who finds Eric and saves his life.

13. Episode 5.12 - Internal Affairs. Eric is very irritated by Jake working a case that was originally his.

14. Episode 5.13 – Throwing Heat. Eric shows up at the lab wearing a suit, and Calleigh doesn't hide her attraction for him. She calls him "hot stuff" and they both blush considerably and flirt a little bit. Later in the episode, Eric witnesses a husband beating his wife and steps in to defend her. Turns out the married couple were scam artists, and they sue Eric for attacking the husband. Eric loses the case, and in the end Calleigh comforts him, telling him she has his back.

15. Episode 5.15 – Man Down. While looking for a kidnapping victim with Horatio, Eric is shot in the head. He dies at the scene, but Horatio convinces the paramedics to work on him and take him to the hospital. Eric's heart stops beating a few times, but the doctor is able to stabilize him. While he's in the hospital fighting for his life, Calleigh shows up and puts a crucifix in his hand. Later on, Calleigh visits him again, and this time Eric is awake. Eric can't move or talk much, but he sweetly whispers her name. Calleigh reassures him everything's gonna be okay, but Eric is in pain and asking for his sister Marisol. Not wanting to tell him that Marisol is dead, she urges Eric to get some rest. Outside his room, Calleigh talks to Alexx, who reveals fragments of the bullet are still in Eric's brain, and that he might not be the guy they always knew him to be. As Calleigh watches him through the glass compartment, she fights back tears. It's the first time the audience sees Calleigh cry.

16. Episode 5.16 – Broken Home. Eric is back on the job after being shot, but he's having memory and motor problems. After he messes up some evidence Calleigh confronts him, but unlike the way she usually yells at Ryan for messing up, she's very tender and understanding of Eric. But Eric isn't being so nice to himself. He wonders if he came back to work too soon and if he should stop working. Calleigh tells him they all need him.

17. Episode 5.21 – Just Murdered. The wife who sued Delko for attacking her husband is back, and she's wondering why she hasn't received any money from the suit. But Eric doesn't remember her, due to his brain injury. Calleigh pulls him aside and explains the situation, and tells him to keep working on the case while she deals with the wife. Later on, Eric thanks Calleigh for what she did, and Calleigh reassures him he would've done the same thing for her. But that's not what Eric means. He tells her she's helped him out a lot this year. Calleigh is appreciative of the comment, and without giving it much thought she gets up on her tip toes and kisses him on the cheek. Eric is shocked by this and they look at each other a little awkwardly for a moment before Calleigh walks away. Eric watches her leave with a huge grin on his face.

18. Episode 5.22 – Burned. After the kiss, the romantic and sexual tension between Eric and Calleigh escalates. While processing a scene, Calleigh gets a glass shard in her finger. Eric comes over quickly and removes it. Their bodies are very close and the tension rises. Calleigh looks at Eric tenderly and whispers his name, but she stops there and for a long moment they continue to look at each other in the eyes before Eric chuckles nervously and looks down, noticing the glass turns out to be an important piece of evidence. In the same episode, Natalia teases Eric about his growing crush on Calleigh. Eric's reaction is one of bashful befuddlement, something no one would have expected from the formerly smooth Eric Delko.

19. Episode 5.23 - Kill Switch. Eric steps off the elevator and spots Calleigh. He smiles brightly and watches her for a moment. Meanwhile, Calleigh is on the phone, talking to Jake. When she realizes Eric is watching her, she hangs up quickly. Eric comments that it's great to see her smile like that, and if it was Jake on the phone. Calleigh confirms it was, and that if it weren't for the amount of work they both had they could go on a date. However, she changes the subject quickly.

20. Episode 5.24 - Born To Kill. Jake has been hurt in a car crash. While Eric and Calleigh are at the scene, Eric bitterly comments he bets Jake wishes Calleigh was at the hospital with him. Calleigh stops him, and comments that she went to see Eric while he was in the hospital, too. Eric says it was much different with him. Calleigh realizes Eric is jealous, and reassures him that she trusts him with her life, and meanwhile she doesn't know how she feels about Jake; she's torn between the two. Calleigh confirms she has feelings for Eric, but she tells him they work together. Eric comments that she works with Jake, too, but Calleigh tells him that not as much as she works with Eric, meaning a relationship with him would be inappropriate. Eric smiles, however. He only cares about the fact that she admitted she feels the same way about him. It's a small victory but he'll take it. Later in the episode, Jake goes to the lab and kisses Calleigh in the lobby. Eric, who is in one of the rooms, witnesses the kiss morosely. Later, Calleigh gets in the elevator and looks back. She realizes Eric saw the whole thing. She looks down, feeling guilty, while Eric stands there looking heartbroken.

21. Episode 6.01 - Dangerous Son. Eric sees Calleigh at their latest crime scene and notes out loud that she has a nice new tan. When Calleigh tells him it's the product of five days in Antigua, he tells her that Jake has the same tan, and his jealousy is obvious. He sees Jake a little while later and asks him how it was in Antigua. Jake turns to him and tells him it was nice, causing Eric to lift an eyebrow, seemingly holding back a retort. His displeasure in knowing that Calleigh and Jake went on a vacation away from Miami together is evident in the looks he gives them both for the rest of the episode.

22. Episode 6.06 - Sunblock. Tensions are high as a result of the events of the previous episode, where Eric unknowingly informs IAB about Calleigh and Jake's relationship, which goes against new department policy and has prompted Jake to suggest that the two of them should cool it off. When Eric carefully notes that Calleigh's still mad at him for what happened, Calleigh tells him that she's not, and that Eric had only sped up the inevitable. With that confirmation in mind, Eric informs Calleigh that if he had been in the same position, he would've switched to the night shift, making it clear that Calleigh means much more to him than his job. Calleigh looks touched by his sincerity, and after smiling and saying to him, "that's sweet," she seems to consider his words for a moment, likely making a quick mental comparison between Eric and Jake, who, upon being informed of the pending changes in department policy, immediately tried to protect his own career by backing away from their relationship. This shows that Jake is not really committed to Calleigh, while Eric would put her at the top of his priority list.

23. Episode 6.09 - Stand Your Ground. When Calleigh is involved in an off-duty shooting that results in two deaths, Eric is the first and arguably the only person to make an effort to comfort Calleigh. He joins her at the back of the ambulance on scene and asks the tough questions, provides the words of comfort and holds her when she cries. Calleigh is the rock of the team and never dares show vulnerability, so it is significant that she would even allow herself to cry in Eric's presence, never mind cry as Eric holds her. This shows her implicit trust in him. Conversely, Jake shows very little interest in Calleigh's well-being, even after being confronted about the fact that his drinking has gotten her into deeper trouble with IAB. Later, after Eric has extracted the bullet that would clear Calleigh's name, she smiles and thanks him, but her smile quickly wanes when Eric reveals that Jake was the one who had come to him with the information about the bullet. Eric reluctantly comments that maybe Jake is a stand-up guy after all, but from Calleigh's reaction, it seems that she is questioning that herself.

24. Episode 6.10 - CSI: My Nanny. While Eric and Calleigh are processing a teenage suspect's room, Calleigh makes an off-handed remark about children by asking Eric if he could imagine raising kids given the hours that they work. Eric immediately responds affirmatively, which elicits a rather surprised look from Calleigh. Eric jocosely suggests that Calleigh is implying that he wouldn't make a good father, but Calleigh replies by saying that he'd make a great father, but had merely been surprised because Eric had never mentioned having children before. Eric then makes a very loaded comment about how he would like to start a family when he finds the right girl. Calleigh bites her lip, clearly catching what Eric had meant. Before Calleigh really has a chance to formulate a reply, Eric finds the evidence that they had been searching for and draws Calleigh's attention to it, satisfied that he has made his point.

25. Episode 6.15 - Ambush- When Eric realizes Calleigh has been kidnapped he goes way beyond the amount of worrying the rest of the team is feeling. And when he sees Cooper posted Calleigh's new number he races to Cooper's house kicks down the door and takes Cooper to the ground. He screams at Cooper asking where Calleigh is. When Cooper denies the fact of having anything to do with it and says he was just having a little fun, Eric says "a criminal could have called her out. you think about that? If anything happens to her I will come back here and kill you." then he leaves. You could really feel the emotion, concern and most of all the care in his voice.

26. Episode 6.16 - ALL IN- Calleigh has been kidnapped and of course, the team tries to find her. Eric is particularly concerned with her welfare (Gee, I wonder why!). He is in the lab with Natalia and she notes that there are a lot of similarities between the case of Kathleen Newberry and Calleigh's. Eric says, "I won't let Calleigh end up like that other woman." He gets upset a lot in the episode, especially because the tow truck drivers aren't careful, and he thinks that if they paid attention more, Calleigh might not be missing. Natalia says that she knows what he's saying, but the important thing is finding her. She knows he's upset because he is in love with Calleigh, and he worries for her safety. Later in the episode, while questioning a suspect, Eric makes the suspect tell him the location of the poker game, after the man tells him, he says, "You better hope you're right." To the other suspect he says, "Do you know where CSI Duquesne is, because if you do, you better tell me. Lt. Caine is working on the killer's fingerprint, and if they match yours' I'm not going to be so nice the second time." Later, at Club Descent, Ryan, Eric and Frank point guns at Seth, the kidnapper, and Eric looks the most intense, and in the end, he's the person who gets to hold Calleigh and comfort her. An important detail is that SHE goes to HIM. At the end of the episode, he asks her if she's going to be ok, she says that she will. He asks if she'll take off work, she says that she doesn't know, that all she wants to do is go home and not think about what happened, and she smiles a little at him, and tries to get into her car. He stops her saying, "Hey, you're not going home alone." Calleigh tells him that she's fine, but thanks him. Eric says he's not fine, basically insisting that she let him come with her. it would make him feel better. He tells her, "I"Im not. I don't know what i would have done if something would have happened to you today." And at that, she agrees "Okay" and he opens the Hummer door for her. She smiles and gets in, he goes around front with a huge grin on his face, Calleigh opens his door by reaching across the seat, which she didn't have to do. When he gets in, they smile and make googly-eyes at each other before driving away. It's a moment that shows how much they really care about each other.
