Chapter Three

Jessica sets in the break room drinking a cola when Horatio walks in, He smiles at her

“How you coping Sweetheart?” He asks sitting down beside her

“Missing my mom! I never only saw dad at dinner and sometimes at weekends when he wasn’t working”

“He was a Lawyer,”

“Yes! I scare Lt. Caine, what if they come after me next?” Jessica says with tears in her eyes.

“Jessica, I won’t let that happen to you ok!” Horatio says rubbing her back.

Eric enters the room

“H, Cooper looking into the computer, but the password is giving him grief!”

“Try my date of birth! 08/12/1996!” Jessica answers before adding “I was his little Princess!”

“Jessica, Do you know what case your father was working on?”

“Something to do with the name Riaz, I think I only heard snippet of conversations when he was at home!” Jessica answers looking at her feet.

“Riaz!” Horatio mutters under his breath thinking back to the day Marisol was shot and nearly killed. So the Riaz family were back in Miami and had reformed the gang The Mala Noche’s

Eric turns at the name Riaz “Horatio, I thought he was killed in Brazil?” he adds before heading towards his own lab

“He was but it looks like another member of the family is in charge of them!”

“You have history with the Riaz Family?” Jessica asks wide eyed

Horatio nods “Yes , Antonio Riaz put a hit out on my wife, a few years ago, She had just meet up with her brother when she was hit, Someone had stolen her Purse and her brother had got it back for her. Marisol’s brother has just walked out of this room”

“Detective Delko is your brother in law?” Jessica says with a surprised voice.

“Yes Jessica, He is!” Horatio says with a smile. Before adding “Marisol and I had only been married a day when the hit was green lit.”
Jessica eyes go wide “Ouch, “Horatio looks at Jessica’s face

“Jessica don’t worry, my wife survived!” Horatio says laying a hand on her shoulder.

Frank Tripp knocks on the door “Horatio we have another body!”

“Another Family?” Horatio asks.

Frank nods “A Family of four, Delko and Calleigh are heading there now!”

“Frank, Can you get some protective protection for Jessica, I not sure but I think she is worrying about them coming after her!” Horatio says

Frank nods “On it Horatio!”

“Jessica, Is there anything else you can remember about the phone call!?” Horatio asks

“No, Dad went into his study and shut the door! Mom had a worried look on her face while she cooked dinner! Think Dad was in it deep!” Jessica says as Speed comes in

“Horatio, what’s up with Calleigh and why her no good husband just turned up? He asks stopping dead when he see’s Jessica

“Jessica, This Is Tim otherwise known as Speed! And it‘s up to Calleigh to tell you ok” H says looking at Tim. Tim nods ok.

“Tim, this is Jessica Lopaz, Do you think you can keep an eye on her for a while, I need to go and see what Eric and Calleigh have found!”
Tim nods as Horatio heads out.

~Mean While~
Jake as meet up with the Noche’s.

“We have another job for you to do, Lucas!” {Jake’s undercover name is Lucas Valdez}

“which is?” Jake asks cocking an eye brow

“Revenge for my Uncle’s death” Crystal Riaz says

“Antonio’s Death?” Jake asks

“Yes, Kill Caine and all who are close to him!” Crystal sneers back
“Meaning?” Jake asks

“Kill Caine‘s wife, His niece, Nephew, brother in law, His team!” Crystal answers

“NO!” Jake Yells

“No , Lucas what do you mean by No!” Crystal spits at him

“No, My Wife is a member of his team, Shit!” Jake realises he just blown his cover

“Your wife?” Crystal yells at him

“Yes, CSI Calleigh Duquesne is my wife!” Jake answers hearing the click of a gun being cocked

Unseen by Crystal, Jake shudders in fear. He's just bitten the viper and she's hit back with a vengeance. Her two biggest older brothers come in to finish what she started, but he pulls his weapon, complete with silencer, and they're quickly eliminate.

"Good, going boy," an icy voice said from his left, Now it's your turn Lucas or should I say Jake Berkeley, I hope you said goodbye to her this morning because you will be taking your last breath on this earth.” Crystal says firing her weapon at him.

Jake falls to the ground dead. a gun shot wound to the back of the head.
“MAX , RIO, get him out of here and dump him where they’ll able to find him, and make it impossible for them to I’D him. Burn the body if you have too. And clean this mess up!” Crystal yells at her two goons.

~Two Hours Later.~

"Great idea, Jake, call for backup BEFORE you head into a confrontation with the head of one of Miami's most dangerous families, Bad idea to leave us in the dark about your business connections to them." Frank said angrily to Jake’s Dead body.

"He was deep under cover, Tripp," Horatio said, "there's no way that Jake would've given anyone these details, they're classified. Not even to Calleigh, This is all she needs It only been a few months since Dylan died in her arms from Cancer! And now she has lost both her beloved men in her life”

"Jake was as ambitious as Calleigh is," Eric stated tersely before adding “I wouldn't have given their relationship another month before she's filed for divorce and left his sorry ass for good this time."

"Eric, Keep your thoughts to yourself, I know you still hurting from when she pick Jake over you" Horatio inserted calmly, the fire in his eyes belying his dulcet tones, "we've got a crime scene to process and murderers to catch before they can hurt anyone else. Boa Vista, have you and Wolfe done a perimeter check to be certain that they've cleared the area?"

"They've gone for now, Horatio," Natalia said nervously, "but it looks like they'll be returning sooner than we'd like them to. These guys are determined to see us all dead, and that's no lie."

“H, Let me be the one to tell Calleigh, about his death” Eric says looking down at Jake’s lifeless body. Horatio Nods and slips his sunglasses back on and heads out to his hummer.

"Horatio WAIT!” Ryan yells running out with a Clear Evidence bag, Horatio takes it

{The Note}
“Lt. Caine, Keep an eye on your loved ones, They are next! Starting with your Wife, Marisol Delko-Caine”

“Ryan has Eric seen this?” Horatio asks

“No, Alexx found it on Jake’s body!” Ryan answers. Horatio gets in his hummer and heads for his home, To check on Marisol and Isabella Virginia.

The Caine Household.

Marisol is watching the TV. Little Isabella sitting beside her.

“Mama, I ant Uice Peas!” she asks her mother.

Marisol smiles at her and gets up begins to head for the kitchen when she hears the front door go,

“Dada, Ew home early” Issy says running at her dad, who scoops her up giving her a hug.

“Yes Sweetheart I am, now where is your mama?” Horatio asks sitting down on the sofa

“Getting me Uice Dada!” Issy says snuggling onto H’s lap.

“Horatio your Early, I haven’t started on Dinner yet!”

“Dinner is not an Issue at the moment, Sit Please. Jake been killed and the killer has named……………….. Issy will you go play in your room for a few minutes while I talk to mama.”

“Otay dada.” Issy scrambles off and heads to her bedroom.

“Horatio, what is wrong?” Marisol asks rubbing his upper arm.

“I need you and Issy to move out and into a safe house.” Horatio say with a weak smile not likely what he had to tell his beloved wife.

“Why?” Marisol asks with a worried expression on her face

“Antonio Riaz’s Family have come back to Miami looking for revenge, the gang is after all who are dear to me and you are the next on their hit list!” Horatio say looking at Marisol face, Tears running down her cheeks. Horatio grabs her hand and hold them.

“Where can we go? Mama and Papa house will be the first they will look!”

“Don’t worry about Clorinda and Pavel, Frank is sorting them out, getting them to safety they should be at the condo in Key West by now. It a Pity I can’t send you and Isabella down there too,” Horatio says but Marisol cuts him off

“No, H, Send Issy, She’ll love being with a grandparents, Let me stay here beside you. They tried once to kill me and I won’t let it happen again. Calleigh has been giving me Lessons in how to fire a gun.”

Issy runs back downstairs, just as a car pulls up and gunfire erupts, peppering the house with bullets, a drive by shooting, the car roars off.
Marisol screams and runs to her daughter both are hit. Horatio calls for rescue and the team.

Mean While Back at the Lab.

Speed has looked in on Calleigh. Jessica at his heels.

“Neat Lab!” She squeals Calleigh smiles

“Yeah it is neat! I have even neater games on my Computer,” Calleigh says showing Jessica the Game.

“Speed what is Up?” she asks

“Calleigh, Ever since I came back you have looked So Sad, Why? Nobody is telling me anything, what happened to make you sad?” Tim asks his voice full of concern.

“You really don’t know, Do you Tim!” Calleigh says putting her hand over her mouth

“No I don’t know!”

Calleigh looks at him with sad eyes.

“You know Jake and me Got married {Tim nods} Well We had a son Called Dylan, He was 8 months old when he died, Dylan died of Non Hodgkin lymphoma, He was only three months old when he was Diagnosed, We were all devastated. Jake took it the hardest of all He retreated and want back undercover. He only resurfaces early on today!” Calleigh says with tears running down her face.

Eric comes out of the lift His face mask in sadness, Frank comes out of the AV lab.

“Delko, Speedle, Calleigh, Your all got to go to Horatio house ASAP, Marisol and Issy been shot possibly killed, I just had the callout!” Frank says as Eric shakes his head and bolts back into the lift, Afraid for his sister and nieces lives, Calleigh and Speed follow with Frank

As soon they get out of the lift Frank pulls Calleigh aside,
“Cal, Jake’s Dead sweetheart, Noche got him, It looks like they are after every member of Horatio’s team! I think it would be better if you stayed here, at the lab!”

Calleigh just nods before saying “I knew one day, I would get this news, I’ll grief in my own time lets concentrate on Horatio and his family for now! Sure I stay I got bullets to run and someone has to keep an eye on Jessica Lopaz!”

"Well, we found a message on Jakes body, Horatio got an odd message from them, and it said,

'Noche back in biz. Just thought I'd let you know, as they're after your family and anyone else that's special to you.' And after that, nothing but static as his cell phone died." Frank says getting in a hummer beside Eric , Calleigh leans in though the open window as they continue to talk

“So we hustled down to the warehouse on Golden Strands and found Jake's body in full view, along with Two of Crystal Riaz’s goons It was just awful!" Eric adds

"Yeah, I can see that," Speed replied calmly walking over to her, "you're really upset and now I know why. I know it's not like me, but could you use a hug right now?"

"Yes, I could, old buddy," Calleigh said, sobbing hysterically. "I've been through a lot already, and now there's more to get over” Speed hugs her before getting into the back of the hummer,

She gets back into the lift and heads back up to the lab, Alexx has Jessica in one of the conference rooms doing her maths homework.

“they struck at Horatio's townhouse in Boca this morning, hitting little Isabelle and seriously wounding poor Marisol again.” Frank adds before saying “Horatio's at the hospital, beside himself with guilt and remorse for not disappearing when they offered him that buy out deal last month. It going from bad to worse so fast, all of our heads are spinning." Eric turns into Horatio’s street

“It looks like Graveyard shift has it covered” Speed says as Eric drops Frank off at the crime scene and heads back towards the crime lab.

Speed was floored by the news he'd just received earlier from his colleague. Apparently, the timing of his return to the force was not exactly good. He'd been away at university, completing his master's degree in molecular biology and a second bachelor's in forensic graphology (handwriting had always fascinated him, so he'd decided it was high time to scratch that particular itch). While in school, he'd met, fallen in love with, and married a sweet young lady named Teena Alcourt. Who now was very pregnant with their first child.

She'd been just the kind of woman he needed; soft, warm, intelligent, and in possession of a very wicked sense of the ridiculous. Any time he got to serious about things, she'd prank him to pull him out of his black mood. He hoped and prayed that Horatio and Marisol's marriage would last in spite of their being under constant threat from the Mala Noche and others who'd love nothing more than for Horatio to disappear.
They had their little Issy now, and one look at Marisol's gently rounded form told you a second was on its way. With her being shot again, and pregnant, the chances of her surviving weren't great. He decided to spend his lunch break at the hospital with H and Marisol as a way of welcoming her into the fold, and of keeping a friendly eye on H's mental state.
