jury duty!
Jul 12 2007, 12:18 PM EDT well I have never served on a jury before! being disabled kinda gets you out of all that stuff. but it would be cool to help put a bad guy behind bars. my mom served on 1 where the guy claimed to be hurt and was sueing the company.well at lunch she was looking out the window and saw him run up the steps 2 at a time she showes the other jurers and this guy didn't get a dime.it was just luck she saw him or he would have gotten millions on a lie 4 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: jury duty!
May 21 2008, 8:05 PM EDT When I lived in LA, I got a jury summons about once a month. I did what most people in LA do... I threw it in the garbage. But there is a really easy way to get out of serving on a jury if it's a criminal case. Just let the defense lawyer know that you believe in the death penalty, and he won't want you on the case, even if it isn't a capital crime. Studies have shown that people who believe in the death penalty are MUCH more likely to rule against the defendant than people who don't believe in the death penalty; therefore, defense lawyers don't want "death qualified" jurors since it isn't in their clients' best interest. RE: jury duty!
May 21 2008, 9:12 PM EDT Why would you want to get out of jury duty anyway? You are helping the innocent and putting away the guilty. I got called for jury duty once. I got to go into the court room and hear what the case was about. A father was being charge with aggrevated assault on his child. The father was being charged for throwing hot scalding water on his infant daughter. I didn't get a chance to be a juror as they had selected the correct number before getting to me. Since this was the last case of the day, we got to go home after we returned back to the waiting room. Yes, it is scary at first, but it is also rewarding knowing that you are helping in the justice system. Just think, what would Horatio say about trying to get out of jury duty??? May 21 2008, 10:23 PM EDT "Why would you want to get out of jury duty anyway? Just think, what would Horatio say about trying to get out of jury duty???"Because in LA, you get called to jury duty for every little petty crime, it's time off work without pay unless you use vacation time/sick leave, they only pay you $5 a day and they don't even reimburse you for gas or parking (which costs more than $5). However, if they'd called me to be on the jury for OJ, he wouldn't be a free man today - LOL. Besides, I really am "death qualified" (I'm for the death penalty), so they wouldn't want me on the jury anyway. Where I live now (for the last 3 years), I haven't received a jury summons yet. RE: jury duty!
May 23 2008, 4:18 AM EDT Is letting some one get off that may be guilty more important than finding them guilty. If $5.00 dollars is all you get for a day then that is to bad. If it wasn't for the fact that I have a problem sitting for long spells. Then I could be on a Jury also. I would consider it a privilege and it is also the duty of every free thinking American to serve on a Jury at least once. Do you find this valuable? |

May 23 2008, 4:21 AM EDT tanya dolly here I think that if I was on a jury with David. I wouldn't have my mind on the trial. He is such good looking eye candy that I would be focusing on him and not what I should be. He would be a distraction. Do you find this valuable? |

May 23 2008, 11:55 AM EDT " If $5.00 dollars is all you get for a day then that is to bad. "So if I serve on a jury for 4 weeks and only make $60 in FOUR WEEKS time, how do you propose I pay the rent, pay utilities AND feed my kid? If you can support a kid for a month off $60, PLEASE let me know how to do it. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Jun 23 2008, 10:38 PM EDT I got called a few weeks back. I was stuck in there from 8AM to almost 6:30PM. Even though I knew both people involved, I still had to sit and wait until they chose the final four. Being from a law enforcement family has always seemed to be a quick ticket out, but this not this time! Do you find this valuable? |

RE: jury duty!
Jun 24 2008, 10:31 PM EDT My grandfather was a respected police officer, and my aunt is a former officer who now works for the state attorney's office. When she joined the force in the late 60's, she was the youngest on the force. So young, she wasn't allowed to carry a gun! I didn't mind serving. I could have done a million other things with my day, but I got paid. It was $15 more than I had before. Do you find this valuable? |
